Why Doesn't the Sun Power the World?

The Sun's potential to power our lives is quite simply breathtaking. It is 330,000 times the mass of earth, 15 million degrees at the core (seriously) and consists of 99.86% of the mass of the entire solar system!

And not only is the vast power of the Sun available to us every day, non-stop, in mind-boggling quantities but we have also developed the exact technology required to harness it and are improving it everyday. Whether in enormous power stations or with home solar power, nothing in principle is holding us back.

My question is, why doesn't it power the world already? Imagine the drastic increase in quality of life that a solar planet would provide us with! No pollution, no Carbon Dioxide emissions, no power cuts, no oil price wars and maybe, just maybe, no energy bills!

I needed to find the answer to this question, read on to do the same.

Are World Leaders Preventing a Solar Planet?

Not as far as my research suggests. The capacity to involve solar power in the electricity generation technologies of many countries is now a permanent feature in energy policies. Take these quotes for example:

"Clearly, we need more incentives to quickly increase the use of wind and solar power; they will cut costs, increase our energy independence and our national security and reduce the consequences of global warming."

Hilary Clinton, 2005

"To truly transform our economy, protect our security, and save our planet from the ravages of climate change, we need to ultimately make clean, renewable energy the profitable kind of energy."

Barack Obama, 2009

The politicians are all for it and solar power stations are becoming more and more frequent around the world. But we know what to do right now, we don't need to wait for the big corporations and energy companies to do it all for us! So I surmised that maybe homeowners are the problem. After all, there has to be some use for home solar power!

So Why Not Home Solar Power?

The technology and infrastructure to install a home solar power system into almost any household exists right now and the list of benefits is incredible:

  1. You will save enormous amounts of money on electricity bills,
  2. Your electricity consumption will not emit Carbon Dioxide or otherwise pollute the planet,
  3. Solar power is safe (imagine generating your own electricity from gas at home),
  4. Solar power is reliable (it doesn't matter if it is cloudy or raining, some sunlight gets through),
  5. You will increase the value of your home,
  6. You will be immune to rising future energy prices - in fact you could actually profit from an increase in fuel prices as your energy efficient home will also raise in value proportionally!

This is a powerful list and only really reinforces the question of why solar panels don't power our everyday life. However, there is more.

The Conclusion and the Solution

So, to put you out of your misery I did actually find the answer to my original question and it was two-fold and very interesting.

Firstly, people just generally have the mindset that electricity is something you pay for. We see bills as part of life and fork out huge chunks of our hard-earned paychecks because that's just the way it is. This is why we don't seek alternatives and why home electricity production seems an alien concept to us.

Secondly there is quite simply the price. It can be huge! For those who can transcend the attitude mentioned above and actively seek out opportunities to purchase a home solar power system it comes as a nasty surprise to discover that brand new solar panels are astronomically expensive and will take years to become profitable.

So is there any hope? Yes, as a matter of fact there is! The information on how to make your home a solar home for minimal cost is available today and it is information you need to know.

The link below will lead you to discover that every household could easily and cheaply use home solar power systems for all of their electricity needs and so, to answer my question:

Why doesn't the Sun power your world? Because you haven't clicked here yet!
